About this book

Fugitive Pieces is reproduced from the First Edition, with a bibliographical note by Marcel Kessel. The note says the last poem in the volume bears the date of November 16, 1806. The note gives Moore's account of Fugitive Pieces: that it was distributed in November, Byron presenting the first copy to the Reverend J.T. Becher, prebendary of Southwell minster.

The contents list, among others, poems titled On the Death of a Young Lady, Cousin to the Author and Very Dear to Him, Epitaph on a Beloved Friend, and Adrian's Address to His Soul, When Dying. A piece headed Translation from Catullus calls on Cupids to droop each little head and not to let their wings be spread with joy, and says that Lesbia's favourite bird is dead.
