About this book
John Keats published three small volumes in a poetic career of about three years, and this one, from 1820, is the last. The editor calls it the flower of his poetic production. This edition reprints it page for page from a copy in the British Museum, with line numbers added, and was prepared by M. Robertson for the Clarendon Press in 1909.
The collection holds the narrative poems Lamia, Isabella; or, The Pot of Basil, a story from Boccaccio, and The Eve of St. Agnes, followed by the odes to a nightingale, a Grecian urn, Psyche and melancholy, the poem To Autumn, and Hyperion, which opens among the fallen Titans as Saturn searches for his place among the defeated gods.
A life of Keats comes first, with introductions and notes at the back, which makes it a useful edition for students as well as for anyone reading the poems for pleasure.
