About this book
The book is a "GRAMMATICAL SKETCH OF THE HEVE LANGUAGE", "TRANSLATED FROM AN UNPUBLISHED SPANISH MANUSCRIPT", by Buckingham Smith. The text on the Heve language says "This tongue was spoken in the middle of the last century over a region of country principally within Sonora".
The text says "The Opata are the best of the native Christians, having never turned upon their teachers". The text gives verb forms such as "todam, I leave; todetz, I will leave; todesuam, I leave forever". The text describes the estimative verb: "This denotes the judgment that one forms of anything, as, dénitzem, I judge it good". A list of words gives, among others, "Wife, húhgua" and "Wild-cat, porótz".
