About this book

Handbook of Old Burial Hill, Plymouth, Massachusetts is by Frank H. Perkins, and its title page promises “Its History, Its Famous Dead, and Its Quaint Epitaphs.” The handbook says Burial Hill is 165 feet above the sea level, rises abruptly just back of the town’s busiest thoroughfare, and contains about eight acres.

The handbook describes the view northward from the hill as taking in the villages of Kingston and Duxbury and a monument erected in memory of Myles Standish. One epitaph names Andrew Farrell, aged 38 years, owner and commander of the ship Hibernia, who sailed from Boston and was wrecked on Plymouth Beach in 1805. The index of names lists, among others, Atwood, Mehitable, Bartlett, Joseph, and the Judson family.
