Handbook of The New York Public Library

Handbook of The New York Public Library says the Central Building of The New York Public Library is on the western side of Fifth Avenue, occupying the two blocks between 40th and 42nd Streets. The text says the building stands on part of the site of the old Croton distributing reservoir and was built by the City of New York at a cost of about nine million dollars. The text says the building was opened to the public May 23, 1911, in the presence of the President of the United States, the Governor of the State of New York and the Mayor of New York.

The contents list names, among others, a Second Floor with an Oriental Division, a Jewish Division, a Slavonic Division, a Science Division and an Economics Division. A section on the Prints Room says it opens from the corridor on the east (the front) of the Library and is open 9 a. m. to 6 p. m. week days. A passage names the Bulletin of The New York Public Library, published monthly and chiefly devoted to the Reference Department, and Branch Library News, the monthly publication of the Circulation Department.
