About this book
Henry VIII and His Court is a historical novel, translated from German. Among others, the contents list names Choosing a Confessor, The King’s Fool and Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey as chapters. Catharine tells Jane that the maxim Cranmer has given her is to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
The text calls Henry Howard superstitious because he was a poet, and says that to poets it is given to perceive the mysterious connection between the visible and the invisible world. The lords and ladies of the court follow in silence and at a respectful distance, and the text says no one suspected that the woman, stepping along so proud and magnificent, had but just now escaped an imminent peril of her life.
