About this book
Empress Josephine is presented as an historical sketch of the days of Napoleon, with the contents naming betrothal, an unhappy marriage, prison and deliverance. The account describes Josephine welcoming the prospect of going to Paris, a place that the narratives and descriptions she had heard made seem like a fairy world.
Josephine becomes betrothed to General Bonaparte after overcoming her fears and finding a joyous trust in the future. Josephine cannot bring herself to tell her deceased husband's children about the new love in her heart and the marriage she has contracted. Josephine commissions Madame de Campan to communicate the news to Eugene and Hortense, explaining her desire to give the children a faithful, loving father.
