About this book
His Second Wife is a book by Ernest Poole. Chapter I opens on a train speeding toward New York, where in one of the parlour cars two young women sit facing each other, talking and smiling, deeply absorbed. A slim college boy with fresh, eager eyes keeps darting quick looks from time to time at the older of the two, the blonde.
Ethel thrills at the recollection that Amy feels sure she will be a success. Fanny Carr calls up and asks them to dinner and the play, and Ethel makes some excuse and declines. A speaker, addressing Joe, says that Amy was lazy and that this had always been a part of her.
