His Unknown Wife

An unexpected marriage proposal reaches an American prisoner with less than an hour left to live. In Cartagena, Maseden faces a death sentence after a hurried trial under President Suarez. Steinbaum, a man he distrusts, brings word that a veiled stranger wants to marry him immediately. Maseden agrees, but insists on suitable clothes and money before the ceremony. Louis Tracy builds the opening around urgent bargaining, political intrigue and the puzzle of the woman's purpose.

The adventure later places Maseden among castaways on Hanover Island with Sturgess and the sisters Madge and Nina Forbes. Their conversation reveals his escape in a cowboy disguise and the sisters' use of their stepfather's surname while traveling. These uncertainties about identity unfold amid wind, darkness and hunger. The novel combines romance with shipwreck survival, offering readers a story in which learning whom to trust matters as much as facing danger.
