About this book
Historic Homes, Fort Dodge, Iowa presents a picture-story history of 101 homes, chronicling the people who brought the houses into being and those who succeeded their first tenants. The introduction describes the homes and their occupants as representative of the community over a time span of more than 100 years. The introduction states that all the homes are extant, while acknowledging the absence of many grand old homes no longer in existence.
The account of the Breen home describes a full basement and three floors, with living areas, bedrooms, a sleeping porch, a bath and a ballroom. The Hawley home has its construction date, 1912, set in large figures in the brickwork of an exterior wall.
