About this book
History and Comprehensive Description of Loudoun County, Virginia is by James William Head. A note from James W. Head speaks of three years of nocturnal application and says that during this period the entire book has been at least three times rewritten. The text says Loudoun County lies at the northern extremity of Piedmont Virginia. The text says the particular geographic location of Loudoun has been most accurately reckoned by Yardley Taylor, who in 1853 made a governmental survey of the county.
The text gives the total amount expended for fertilizers in 1900 as $107,490, an average of $55.18 per farm and 34 cents per acre. The text says few of the early settlers of Loudoun enjoyed any other advantages of education than a few months' attendance at primary schools. The text says the music and songs that were popular just before and during the war attest the vacillating temper of the people.
