About this book
This volume holds Books I and II of Procopius's History of the Wars, headed The Persian War, in H. B. Dewing's English translation first printed in 1914. The introduction describes Procopius as the historian of Justinian's reign and the chronicler of the general Belisarius, and says he was born in Caesarea in Palestine and studied for a legal career.
In one passage Perozes marches against the Ephthalitae, accompanied by the ambassador Eusebius, sent by the Emperor Zeno, and follows a small body in flight into a valley of mountains and forest that proves to have no outlet. Another passage has the people of Antioch jeer at Chosroes from the battlements, while Paulus urges them to buy their freedom for a small sum. The volume also includes an index of names with book and section numbers.
