About this book
Holly berries from Dickens is arranged by days, with a contents list that names days from First Day to Sixteenth Day. Under the heading Seventh Day, a line says that cheerfulness and content are great beautifiers, and are famous preservers of good looks, and is followed by the words Barnaby Rudge. A line ending with the words Bleak House says that the sea has no appreciation of great men, but knocks them about like small fry.
Under Eighth Day, a line ending with the words Pickwick Papers says there is no situation in life so bad that it can’t be mended. Under Ninth Day, a line ending with the words Little Dorrit says that you must expect to go out, some day, like the snuff of a candle; a man can die but once. Under Twenty-fourth Day, a line ending with the words Barnaby Rudge asks where the good is of putting things off and says to strike while the iron’s hot.
