Mr. Pickwick's Christmas

Mr. Pickwick's Christmas is an account of the Pickwickians’ Christmas at the Manor Farm and of the adventures there, with the tale of the goblin who stole a sexton and the famous sports on the ice. A note in the volume says the publishers felt that the very manner in which Pickwick was first issued justifies the separate reprinting of the chapters which deal with the Christmas festivities at the Manor farm.

Under the mistletoe, Mr. Winkle kissed the young lady with the black eyes, Mr. Snodgrass kissed Emily, and Mr. Weller kissed Emma and the other female servants. Wardle stood with his back to the fire, surveying the whole scene with the utmost satisfaction, and the fat boy appropriated and summarily devoured a particularly fine mince pie. On the ice, a sharp smart crack was heard, a large mass of ice disappeared, and Mr. Pickwick’s hat, gloves, and handkerchief were floating on the surface, all of Mr. Pickwick that anybody could see.
