About this book
Home Pastimes, or Tableaux Vivants, is a book by James H. Head. The preface speaks of a sincere desire to extend the influence of a pure and ornamental art, and to promote and extend a perfect system of what is really beautiful in the forming of the Tableau. The work is respectfully inscribed by the author to Samuel P. Long, Esq., as an humble tribute of admiration for his artistic and literary usefulness, and to friends who have participated in many of these scenes.
The stage manager should take his position at the front of the stage, and see that each one is in his proper place. Each tableau should be exhibited twice, and in some cases three times. The gentleman who represents the father must be of good height and large figure, and his costume consists of a purple velvet coat and breeches, white hose, crossed with black ribbons, low shoes, knee and shoe buckles.
