About this book
Horace Walpole: A Memoir is by Austin Dobson and comes with an appendix. The contents list for the first chapter gives, among others, the entries Horace Walpole born, 24 September, 1717, and Goes to Eton, 26 April, 1727. The text mentions seven incomparable drawings that her Ladyship prepared to illustrate The Mysterious Mother, made in a fortnight.
The text says that with the convent itself neither Gray nor his companions seem to have been much impressed. The text says that even Walpole breaks out about a road winding round a prodigious mountain, and surrounded with others, all shagged with hanging woods, obscured with pines, or lost in clouds. A passage on the family names nieces, Edward Walpole's natural daughters, whose charms and amiability had victoriously triumphed over every prejudice which could have been entertained against their birth.
