About this book
Horrors and Atrocities of the Great War, by Logan Marshall, is described as including the tragic destruction of the Lusitania. The opening lines list the desolation of Belgium, the sacking of Louvain, the shelling of defenseless cities, the wanton destruction of cathedrals and works of art, and the horrors of bomb dropping. The text says the Lusitania began to swerve to starboard, heading for the submarine, but before she could really answer her helm a torpedo was flashing through the water toward her at express speed.
The text speaks of the unspeakable crime, the shame of which can be understood only by those who followed and watched the different phases of the German occupation of Louvain. The text describes a hospital, an old tobacco factory, in which 1,400 persons were crowded without blankets or mattresses, or even straw.
