About this book
Hospital Sketches is by Robert Swain Peabody and is dated 1916. Its epigraph is a poem by W. B. Yeats, and the contents begin with an Introduction and a View from the Hospital Terrace before sections named Upthorpe-cum-Regis and Ranconezzo.
Under Upthorpe-cum-Regis the chapters are The Minster and the Meadows, The Church Yard, The Village, The Hall and Trong's Almshouses; under Ranconezzo come The Town and the Lake and more. One passage, written from inside a large hospital, compares a modern hospital's life, discipline and atmosphere with those of the great medieval monasteries. A poem on Sirmione by Alfred Tennyson opens one section, the Italian lakes with Maggiore are described in another, and one passage gives a ballad about a lady and three knights.
