The subtitle calls the book A Soldier's Story of Port Arthur. The contents list names, among others, Mobilization, Our Departure, The Voyage and A Dangerous Landing. An introduction by Count Okuma is named on the title page.
The text says every one, both officers and privates, seemed ready to fight the whole of Russia single-handed. The writer says their souls were already on the great stage of Liaotung, while their bodies still remained in their own country. A sad story tells of Nakamura, a private of the first Reserve, who had an invalid wife and a baby of three. The text speaks of human bullets, the consolidated essence of Yamato Damashii.
