About this book
The contents of Hunting with the Bow & Arrow list Ishi's bow and arrow, archery equipment, methods of shooting, and instructions for making bows and arrows. The narrator recalls swimming streams, hunting deer and small game, and sitting under the stars by a camp fire to talk about old heroes. The narrator says that he learned to love Ishi as a brother and that Ishi looked upon him as one of his people.
A hunting account describes Teddy and a coon struggling underground in a hollow stump, with the narrator hearing the struggle and shouting encouragement. The coon breaks free from the dog and comes out of the hole, while the narrator backs away and prepares a blunt arrow. Art follows a ram over a ridge and camps in the open without blankets because of the distance from camp and the oncoming darkness.
