About this book
In the Amazon Jungle is a book by Algot Lange. The full title adds "Adventures in Remote Parts of the Upper Amazon River". The introduction says Mr. Algot Lange told the writer he was going to the headwaters of the Amazon, and that on his return, a year or so later in New York, he was an emaciated fever-wreck.
The list of pictures includes "Harpooning a Large Sting-Ray" and The Track of the Anaconda. One account tells of going to catch fish with an Indian friend named João, who carried a bow, four arrows with detachable heads, and a harpoon six feet long. The book describes warriors in costume, ready for battle, and says the Chief gave the order for the bow-and-arrow men to start in single file, the others to follow after, in close succession.
