Indian Child Life has new stories by Therese O. Deming, with full-page colour plates after water-colour paintings by Edwin Willard Deming and black-and-white illustrations as well. The contents list eighteen titles, including A Runaway, A Greedy Bear, Canoe Boys, Winter Fun, The Burro Race, Learning to Shoot, Playing at Moving House and Hodgska Makes a Visit.
In one story a baby plays with a buckskin doll until a dog sees a jack rabbit and dashes off, and the baby rolls out. In another, a pueblo boy's father goes out into the mountains after deer and comes upon a she-bear turning over stones to find grubs for her babies. The story of Little Bird, the Navajo shepherd boy, tells of a pony given for taking good care of the sheep, and of goats taken along to help keep the flock together.
