About this book
The contents list, among others, Olive Fremstad, Geraldine Farrar, Mary Garden, Feodor Chaliapine, Mariette Mazarin, Yvette Guilbert and Waslav Nijinsky. The title page calls it a new edition, revised, with sixteen illustrations and an epilogue. The text says a critic long ago pointed out that another singer would not be likely to emerge with credit through the use of Mme. Fremstad's vocal method.
The text calls the Swedish singer magnificent as Brangaene, Amneris, and Ortrud and says she later presented unrivalled characterizations of Isolde, Armide, and Brünnhilde. The author says he first saw Chaliapine on the stage in New York, where his original ideas and tremendously vital personality ran counter to every tradition of the Metropolitan Opera House. The author states that Madame Farrar has probably never sung so well before as she is singing this winter (1919-20), and that she retains the admiration of opera-goers in general.
