About this book

Kate Coventry carries the subtitle "An Autobiography" and is edited by G. J. Whyte-Melville. Chapter I has Aunt Deborah telling Kate that, considering the weather and what not, it would be as well to give up this Ascot expedition. Chapter II says "We've got such a sweet little house in Lowndes Street," and the narrator says that by we she means Aunt Deborah and herself.

The narrator says that Frank Lovell's image was far too often present in her mind. The narrator says she did not choose to confess to herself how much she liked him, but the more she reflected on Mr. Haycock's proposal the more she felt how impossible it would be never to think of Frank any more. A quoted account says that Horsingham was as cool as a cucumber, and that the only thing that seemed to annoy him was a possibility that the cause of his rencontre might be misrepresented to her he loved at home.
