About this book

Satanella, with the subtitle A Story of Punchestown, is by G. J. Whyte-Melville. The contents list names chapters including, among others, The Black Mare, Miss Douglas and Delilah. The text asks who Miss Douglas is, and says everybody asked it and answered too, but not satisfactorily. Miss Douglas is called The Black Douglas out of spite, till a feminine wit and genius gives her the nickname of Satanella.

The General says quietly, "You shall have it at once," in a passage that mentions three thousand pounds of hard money. One man in the party observes the black hunter in front sail easily over a fence, and shouts in his wife's ear, "Norah, that's Miss Douglas!"
