About this book
The introduction sets out a compact, systematically ordered account of useful cordage work, with explanations of the ways its various formations are made. The explanations of some elementary knots go into a degree of detail that even a seaman with short practical experience may consider almost unnecessary. The introduction describes diagrams at every stage, to be followed step by step together with the corresponding text.
The grommet instructions begin by cutting a strand about three and a half times the required grommet length. The directions call for carefully unlaying the rope, retaining the strand's turns, and closing the strand into a ring.
