About this book
The Abbe Constantin is by Ludovic Halevy, with a preface by E. Legouve, of the French Academy. The contents list names, among others, The Sale of Longueval, The New Chatelaine and A Riot of Charity, under Book 1 and Book 2. A biographical note says Ludovic Halevy was born in Paris, January 1, 1834.
The text says the domain was going to be divided and that the heart of the poor priest was rent by this bitter thought. A passage says the Cure was at home, and that Bernard, the farmer of the Marquise, was his friend. Mr. Scott had the most perfect confidence in his wife, and left her entire liberty. The poor Cure, completely bewildered, asks Jean, "If you love her, Jean, and if she loves you?"
