About this book
Layamon's Brut, by Layamon, tells of the Britons, who "dwelt in the pits" and hid "like badgers". Constantin the fair comes ashore "At Totnes" with "all his host".
The text says "Forth they gan march into London, and sent after knights over all the kingdom". The text says that Vortiger the steward was always saying that "the Britons were not of use" and that "the Peohtes were good knights". Arthur, "noblest of kings", sees that Childric "was flown, and into Calidon gone". Arthur pursues "with sixty thousand knights of British people", and the wood he "all surrounded". The King of Media is said to lead "twenty thousand riders".
