About this book

One letter describes the writer scarcely recognising himself at dinner on finding neither a wind band nor a bagpiper in Highland costume. One letter reports a stay of three days at the Marquis of Breadalbane's, spent driving in a barouche all over the park. The description of the estate gives nearly two thousand deer, besides eight to ten thousand more kept in a forest some distance from the castle of Taymouth.

A letter describes American bison as perfectly wild, kept on a peninsula and visible through gaps in the enclosure. A letter expresses disgust at discussion of the press, complaining that everyone tells too many lies and that the ideas have already been expressed in better terms.
