About this book

The preface to the first American edition says the writer's object in writing the Little Songs for Little Boys and Girls was to endeavor to catch something of that good-humored pleasantry, that musical nonsense. Another preface says two captivating little songs, by some unknown hand, appended to the English edition, are retained. The contents list sets out a title and a tune column, and names, among others, Annie's Garden, Old Nursey and The Sun Is Up.

One song describes little Annie's garden, where all sorts of posies grew, among them pinks, mignonette, tulips and roses. One song says Trusty seemed to agree to what little Frank said, and asks whether Trusty learned much of his ABC. A song about three little kittens has them put on their mittens and soon eat up the pie.
