About this book

Maggie's Wish is by Marilyn D. Anderson and illustrated by Dennis E. Miller. Maggie is excited that she will have someone to play with, since being an only child on a dairy farm could get lonely. Maggie admits her dad has not exactly said yes to a pony, only "when you're older" for a long time.

The more Maggie rode Molly, the better she liked the big horse, but her dad was now too busy to help her get on. One day Maggie goes to the pasture and finds the horses lying on their sides snoring, and she hesitates over whether to crawl on, since with no bridle she would not be able to steer the horse. Mom scowls at Maggie and says "I told you to stay close to home. You disobeyed me", and Maggie answers that Dad is going to sell Molly and she wanted to ride her before she leaves.
