Magna Carta, and Other Addresses is by William D. Guthrie, with New York and August, 1916 given as the place and date of publication. The contents list gives the first address as one delivered before the Constitutional Convention of the State of New York at its celebration of the seven-hundredth anniversary of Magna Carta, Albany, June 15, 1915. The contents list gives another item as a response to the toast "The Mayflower Compact" at the twenty-first annual banquet of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of New York.
One address says that we are all so accustomed to the blessings of absolute religious liberty that we really find it difficult to imagine any other condition tolerated in the free air of America. One address says that private schools giving both secular and religious training, including the Catholic parochial schools, must continue to be erected, equipped and supported wholly by the members of the various denominations. A passage on the petition of right says it is available only in cases in which it is sought to obtain restitution of lands or goods, or, if restitution cannot be given, compensation in money.
