About this book

Sofía answers the question of shoes for Nela with laughter and says that Nela would have worn them through in two days. Sofía admits that her affection for Líli amounts to extravagance but refuses to accept an accusation that she lacks charity. Sofía argues that charity requires prudence and judgment rather than giving without knowing whether alms are well or ill bestowed.

A speaker addressing Florentina describes joy beyond expression and expresses desperate curiosity to see Nela. A girl looks at herself in water she compares to a looking-glass, confessing her vanity with perfect simplicity. The blind lad calls the girl as lovely as the angels round the throne of God.
