About this book
In Doña Perfecta by Benito Pérez Galdós, a young traveller asks a peasant how his aunt is, and the peasant answers that she is as handsome as ever. The peasant says that time seems to stand still with Señora Doña Perfecta.
The peasant calls Doña Rosarito the living image of her mother, and tells Señor Don José that he will have a treasure if it is true, as the peasant hears, that he has come to be married to her. The text includes a speech about Orbajosa, saying it is the illustrious cradle of Spanish genius and that here all is peace, mutual respect and Christian humility. A speaker tells Señor Ramos that he is going into the garden by the condemned door, and the night is so dark that the watchers cannot tell precisely at what point Señor de Rey had entered.
