About this book
Master in Sail and Steam, by Charles S. Morgan, presents the career of Captain Frank Hewitt Peterson as a biography of a Maine shipmaster. The work was prepared for presentation to the 1981 Annual Symposium of the Maine Maritime Museum at Bath, Maine.
A first-person account describes sweeping snow off sails and hammering swollen turns of the gaskets before being able to loosen them. The narrator recalls a voyage of seventeen hundred miles to the Spanish West Indies in a schooner registering little more than a hundred tons. The account says Faith Lodge in Charlestown, Massachusetts, conferred the Third Degree through which Pete was admitted to the East Machias lodge.
