About this book
Memoir of the Life of John Quincy Adams by Josiah Quincy recounts Mr. Adams's departure from London for Holland and his journey to the Hague. The account says Holland was taken possession of by the French under Pichegru when the reception of the United States representative had scarcely been acknowledged. Mr. Adams responds by reporting his fellow-citizens' attachment to the French people and their gratitude, and demanding protection for American persons and property.
A quoted address commends extending patronage and encouragement to the science of astronomy as an action deserving mankind's gratitude. The address calls on the lawful sovereigns of the land to patronize and encourage the arts, sciences and good literature.
