About this book
The Life of La Fayette, the Knight of Liberty in Two Worlds and Two Centuries is a book by Lydia Hoyt Farmer. A first-person account in the book says the writer’s mother arrived in Paris on the 19th of Prairial, three days before the decree of the 22d. A quoted speech proposes a toast to the memory of Washington, whom the speaker calls his teacher and adopted father.
Chapter XV covers, among other topics, La Fayette’s personal appearance, his health, his sight and his temperate habits. The text describes the king and queen being brought by the surging mob to the gates of their royal residence in Paris. The text says that as the year of 1790 dawned, La Fayette hoped that the light of liberty was rising.
