The Morals of Economic Internationalism is by J. A. Hobson. The Barbara Weinstock Lectures on the Morals of Trade series says it will contain essays dealing with the various phases of the moral law in its bearing on business life under the new economic order, first delivered at the University of California. The opening says it ought not to be the case that there is one standard of morality for individuals, a different and a slighter standard for corporations, and a third and still slighter standard for nations.
The text says corporations are in a sense moral monsters. The text says the standard of international morality, particularly in matters of commercial intercourse, is on a still lower level. The text says that, if human coöperation is to save these weak and desperate peoples, it must be a coöperation of more than the nations of Europe. The text says that, if America proceeds along this path, it will be because she looks beyond the immediate risks to the wider future of a safer and more prosperous world.
