About this book

Mr. Punch's History of the Great War is by Charles L. Graves. The prologue says that Mr. Punch, though a lover of peace, has from his earliest days not been unfamiliar with war. A verse from the sower to the reader speaks of a mixed record of five hectic years.

The text says that Lord Kitchener asked for 500,000 men and has got them, and that on September 10 the House voted another half million. A verse speaks of the utter transformation of the spirit of the German nation, once the land of poets, seers and sages. An item headed A Word of Ill Omen has a Crown Prince tell a Kaiser, drafting his next speech, to be careful this time and not to call the American Army contemptible. A list of entries reads Saint-Quentin recaptured by Allies and St. Mihiel salient flattened out by Americans.
