About this book
Willard Grosvenor Bleyer wrote Newspaper Writing and Editing. A passage on the "sensationalizing" of the news says it has been the result of an effort to attract large numbers of readers and, by enlarging circulation, to increase profits. A section headed Three Causes lists three principal reasons for suppressing or coloring news, the first being the desire of the owners of the newspaper to use it to advance their own private interests.
Cheers and songs are fired at Mr. Taft from every table, and the songs sung to him include "The Old Brick Row," "Yale Will Win" and "Boola," among others. Advice on rearranging the order of quotations says care should be taken to establish close connection between them and to avoid misrepresenting the thought or spirit of the original.
