About this book
Notable Women of Modern China is a book by Margaret E. Burton. One account tells of a girl whose father "became convinced that this universal and ancient custom was a wrong one" and decided "that his daughters should have natural feet." A woman in that account says, "That I have the distinction of being the first girl who did not have her feet bound, is due to no effort of mine."
Another passage says that Miss Stanton made a trip to Nanchang for evangelistic work and Dr. Kahn for medical work. Another passage speaks of a girl whose "happy smile and merry laugh that so won the hearts of the people at home were bestowed upon every one here."
