About this book
The Renaissance of Girls’ Education in England is subtitled A Record of Fifty Years’ Progress and is by Alice Zimmern. The preface dedicates a brief summary of the events which have wrought a peaceful revolution among us during the last fifty years. The preface says that among the many changes of the half-century, the great transformation in the education of women surely deserves a record.
Chapter VII, Admission to Universities, says the position of women at Oxford and Cambridge is so anomalous as to require a good deal of explanation. The text says that, as a matter of fact, men and women are taught together in nearly all the B.A. and B.Sc. classes. The text says that a place became the home of the Ladies’ College, now incorporated as Girton College, with Miss Davies installed as Mistress.
