About this book
The notes examine strong presumptive evidence in favour of the opinion that the book of Revelation was written by the apostle John. The account of Papias says that only a few fragments of his writings remain, preserved by other writers and in a commentary.
The explanation of the candlesticks distinguishes the single lamp-bearer seen by Zechariah from the two seen by John, corresponding to the two witnesses. The notes interpret standing before God as standing, as it were, in the divine presence, with the golden candlestick before the ark as a comparison. The explanation of the appeal to Lord Jesus treats the words as a desire for his coming in the manner and for the objects referred to in the book.
