About this book
Oriental Rugs, Antique and Modern is illustrated with full-page colour plates, half-tone engravings and maps. The discussion of old Ghiordes prayer rugs describes rich tones of solid colour in their fields and delicate drawing in their borders. The account of those prayer-rug patterns identifies an entrance into a mosque and considers direct copying from archways a possibility for some of the earliest rugs.
The discussion of room furnishings describes Gorevans as less expensive and more showy, suitable for halls or dining rooms, and Afghans as durable rugs of moderate price for a den. The account says some Indian rugs, including Amritsars and Lahores, have recently gained favour for their colours, patterns, texture, and reasonable price.
