About this book
Extinct birds is by Lionel Walter Rothschild and is described as an attempt to unite in one volume a short account of those Birds which have become extinct in historical times. The description adds a few birds which still exist, but are on the verge of extinction. The text says no attempt has been made to quote all books in which extinct birds have been mentioned. The text lists works such as Brisson's Ornithology and Latham's Ornithological Writings among well known general works that are, as a rule, not quoted.
The text quotes Hutton on his new genus as Bill longer than the head, moderately slender and slightly curved. The text refers readers to Dr. Burckhardt’s description, saying it is too long and too technical to be reproduced here.
