About this book
Peeps at Many Lands: Burma is by R. Talbot Kelly, who also made the twelve full-page colour illustrations. It is dated London, 1908. Eleven chapters cover The Land, Rangoon, The People, The Irrawaddy, Village Life, Town Life, Field Work, The Forest, and Temples and Religion.
One passage describes how mountains, forest and wide rivers set Burma apart from its neighbours, with an easy way in from the land side only through a corner of the north-east. Another describes the harbour at Rangoon, where steamers and native boats lie at anchor. Further passages take in silk-weavers, silversmiths and wood-turners at work, and a passage on Buddhism describes a hermit beneath a bo tree and the teaching of truthfulness, purity and kindness.
