About this book
Through India and Burmah with Pen and Brush is by A. Hugh Fisher. The preface calls the series of “Travel Pictures” an endeavour to embody some of the writer’s impressions and experiences in India and Burmah. The preface also says the Visual Instruction Committee of the Colonial Office sent the writer out to the East as their artist. The contents list, among others, Rangoon, His Highness the Sawbwa of Hsipaw, Up the Irrawaddy to Bhamo, and The Dead Heart.
The text describes a raised altar platform with a glass-fronted shrine containing an alabaster Buddha, and a raised space covered with white cloths holding a multitude of dishes and plates of rich cakes, fruits and dainties. The text says Akhbar’s decaying bones within stone slabs lie at Sikandra, but his great idea of universal toleration did not die with him.
