About this book
Psychology and Achievement, by Warren Hilton, is the first of a series of twelve volumes on the applications of psychology to the problems of personal and business efficiency. The contents list headings such as Cell Life After Death, Experiments of Dr. Alexis Carrell, Gateways of Experience, Couriers of Action, Nerve Systems and The Supremacy of Consciousness. The text says the men of the nineteenth century have harnessed the forces of the outer world, and that the age is now at hand that shall harness the energies of mind.
The text states that individual mental efficiency is an absolute prerequisite to any notable personal achievement or any great individual success. The text asks what the effect of a dreadful spectacle was upon the onlookers and answers: confusion, cries of fright and panic, while throughout the grandstand women fainted and lay here and there unconscious. The text states that the human body, both as a whole and as an aggregate of cellular intelligences, is therefore subject in every part and in every function to the influence of the special senses and of the mind of consciousness.
