About this book
Public Speaking is by Clarence Stratton, and its contents list chapters titled Speech, The Voice, Beginning the Speech and Debating. The first chapter says there never has been in the history of the world a time when the spoken word has been equaled in value and importance by any other means of communication. The text compares the voice-producing apparatus in the human body to an organ pipe, with the lungs corresponding to the bellows.
The text builds an outline on the statement that force should not be used against the colonies, because it is only temporary and uncertain in its results, and mentions that when Burke revised this section he may have changed the expression to indicate more certainty. On staging, the book says the lighting system should admit of easy modification, and that no scenery should be built when the stage is first erected.
