The Art of Lecturing is by Arthur M. Lewis. The introductory chapter says the author has decided to embody in these pages the results of the author's own experience and the best learned from the experience of others. The introductory chapter says that no one with an average voice need be afraid of the platform, for time and training will greatly increase its range and resonance.
The author recalls speaking to a good audience at a well advertised meeting where a local speaker serving as chairman spoke over thirty minutes. A chapter headed Mannerisms says speaking mannerisms are of two kinds, and that most mannerisms are undesirable and very few have any value. The text speaks of a promising young speaker who selected as his special subject a question in which few are interested, except corporation lawyers, the American constitution.
